Amy Poehler and Tina Fey Mocks Taylor Swift’s Over-Hyped Bad Blood Music Video With SNL Sketch ‘Dope Squad’

By  December 28, 2015

Everybody seems to love Taylor Swift nowadays. In fact, the T-Swizzle craze has managed to positively sweep across the globe in a manner that some might draw comparisons to an alarming, Walking Dead-like horror flick.

Say what you want, but I’ll be the first to admit that I still do love me some of the ‘ol Taylor Swift music. That being said, it has to be postulated that her Bad Blood video last May was by far one of the most overrated things to come out this year. Yes, Kendrick Lamar spitting a few verses (and hollering back to the Swift favourite Backseat Freestyle) was pretty sweet but aside from the barrage of glitzy pseudo-cinematic posters, the end product really was quite underwhelming. Was the network TV debut even necessary to begin with?

Comedic duo Amy Poehler and Tina Fey appear to have a few things to say about the excess of melodrama too with their parody, Dope Squad. Make no mistake though, their ensemble consist of no such “models and starlets” but are held in check by a motley crew of nannies, gynecologists and mammogram technicians. “We’ve been told that we roll deep” pokes fun at the unrealistically high standards Swift’s friendships are held by the media who already scrutinise her ever-expanding posse obsessively. Any misconceptions by Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant are shut down immediately by Poehler (aka “Shortfuse”) who coolly retorts that their group is a “veritable who's who,” emphasising the exclusivité perpetuated by the concept of such “squads.”

With a less-than-voluntary appearance by popular comedienne Amy Schumer and the customary Slow Motion Post-Apocalyptic Walk®, the final jab at Swift is self-explanatory. “I'm suing everyone here!”

Who will be the latest recruits of The Squad in 2016? Will #SquadGoals still be a thing? Let’s hope not.
