What To Wear To A Pop, Electronic and Indie Music Concert

By  June 3, 2014

If you've been following our Gig Guide closely, you'd know that concert season is upon us again here in Singapore.

From Taylor Swift to The 1975 and Ellie Goulding, music lovers are in for an incredible treat this coming June and July.

The attraction for good music usually goes hand in hand with a passion for fashion. But having a passion for fashion doesn't always mean you have a good fashion sense.

You really don't want to end up looking like either of these folks:

If you're anything like me, you'd know just how difficult it is to put together an outfit for different concerts and it's even harder to look as good as Emma Roberts and Vanessa Hudgens (pictured below) while sweating away at a music festival like Coachella.

To help fix your concert fashion dilemma, I've compiled my ultimate cheat sheet to looking stylish and chic for the different concerts coming up! And guys, don't worry, I've assembled a few outfit pieces for you too!

If you're going to a POP concert...

Pop concerts coming up: Taylor Swift, Sam Tsui & Kurt Hugo Schneider

Girls, take a leaf out of Taylor Swift's style book and channel some feminine flirty fun into your outfits!

Keeping things rather simple, I've paired this textured dress from Topshop with a pair of red sneakers from T-Swift's collaboration with Keds. The dress features a skater skirt making it a lot easier to move about and dance. Remember girls, you want to enjoy the concert, not be bogged down by potential wardrobe disasters so be sure to wear comfy shoes and keep your accessories to a minimum.

Keep all your valuables in a spacious yet stylish bag like the embroidered one from Topshop to keep your hands free. The great thing about this outfit is that it's very wearable and you can use it for many other occasions.

As Lana Del Rey says, "Blue jeans, white shirt, walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn." There truly is nothing hotter than guys in a good ol'simple plain white cotton t-shirt and jeans combination. A white cotton shirt is a lot more breathable especially if you're looking to dance about. However, if you're not up for wearing long stuffy jeans, opt for a denim bermuda instead. Remember to add in a pop of colour with bright sneakers or accessories.

If you're going to an ELECTRONIC concert...

Electronic concert coming up: Ellie Goulding

If you've been stalking Ellie Goulding the way I have, you'd know how much our goddess of a singer loves her high-waisted shorts and crop tees that sweep just above her abs. Ellie also loves her Dr Marts boots more than anything and pairs them with almost everything she wears.

To get Ellie's look for her concert, simply keep your palette monochromatic. If boots seem a little too much for you, finish your outfit with a pair of strappy sandals.

Boys usually have it a lot easier when it comes to dressing up. Take a style tip from actor Andrew Garfield and channel some preppy-cool with this flannel and dark jeans combination. Finish the look with a pair of boots from Dr Martens.

If you're going to an INDIE concert...

Indie concerts coming up: Bombay Bicycle Club, The 1975

Groove to the smooth sounds of Bombay Bicycle Club with this easy get up. Keep cool with this silky blouse from H&M and adorable flats from Soludos. I repeat - COMFORT is KEY at any concert and this outfit does just that.

You can even recycle this look for plenty of other occasions such as picnics, Sunday brunch or a simple date.

Boys, get yourself a pair of fitted jeans and pair it with a band t-shirt and you're good to go!

*****

Always keep in mind two main features of a good concert outfit: to be super comfortable and very cool. Follow these 2 simple rules and you will find yourself enjoying your favourite concert in your coolest outfit!

By the way, in case you were wondering what I'll be wearing to catch Ellie Goulding...

I'll be wearing a crop top from Cotton On, a pencil skirt from Bangkok and a pair of faux snake skin sneakers from H&M.
