Spin or Bin Music Interview With Camryn

For someone who is barely in her teenage years, Camryn has definitely achieved a lot as a musician. From her strong online presence, to two of her songs appearing in the film version of Megan McDonald’s “Judy Moody and the Not So Bummer Summer” and finally, to her upcoming single and debut album – Camryn is a living proof of how talent knows no age. In Southeast Asia to be the opening act for Greyson Chance’s Asian tour, we managed to sit down with the bubbly girl to get to know her a little better.
P.S. Like any normal girl, she ADORES One Direction

INTERVIEW: James Morrison Is Not A Romantic

When the news broke that James Morrison was coming to our part of the world, my 18 year old self was hyperventilating. I have been such a huge fan since my late teenage years (ahem, he helped me through a break-up, that says a lot, doesn’t it? Ha.). A day after his fantastic show at MTV Sessions, we managed to sit down with the man himself and chatted with him about almost everything under the sun – his music, his family and even his dreams of being a superhero.
Unfortunately enough, we weren’t able to video-record the entire interview, so here is the transcript of it. Hey, better a transcript than nothing!

Spin or Bin Music Interview With We Are The In Crowd!

I’m not gonna lie, when I reached the hotel that American pop-punk band We Are The In Crowd was staying at, I could feel my inner crazed-fan coming out. I mean, this is We Are The In Crowd we’re talking about, and anyone who knew me would know I am one of those err, dedicated fans of their music.
I loved how warm and open the band was throughout the interview! Even before the cameras were switched on they were already grilling me about whether it was “a perfect beach day in Singapore” and lying about how they loved the weather here (nice try, guys). To be honest, it kinda felt like I was just hanging out with a bunch of old mates, not a popular band with 100,000 likes on their Facebook page!
From imitating the Pokemon, Jigglypuff, to making up pick-up lines worthy of Barney Stinson’s approval, the band proves that they’re really just a bunch of kids who’s in the scene for pure joy, and not for the money or fame.

Jessie J Marks Final Stop in Asia with a Press Conference in Singapore

When news broke that Jessie J is coming to Singapore for a full concert, we couldn’t contain ourselves. Its Jessie J!! Over the past couple of weeks, her record was on repeat (though we couldn’t make it to the show
) and fortunately for you guys, we even gave away meet and greet passes to meet the lady herself (to the winners, we hope you had enjoyed yourselves!).
So when the opportunity arises to attend the press conference which marked her final stop in Asia, of course we didn’t have the heart to say no. The press conference was a simple affair – held a few hours before the actual concert at the function room of the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Since 987FM was the official radio station, the PC was hosted by one of their DJs, Rozz.
We didn’t want you guys to miss out all the juicy bits and pieces from the press conference, including Jessie J pointing out that Rozz was texting while she was on hosting duties (what in the world, seriously). Watch the entire press conference below!

Spin or Bin Music Interviews Blush!

When I was waiting outside Blush’s holding room at ITE Simei, I peeked through the little window pane and caught the girls dolling themselves up. So much sass was exuding from them, I couldn’t help but feel a knot in my stomach.
As my cameraman was setting up, I took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with them, and I was blown away by how warm they were! Forget questions like “Is my hair alright?” or “Can I have the camera on my better side?”, the girls were actually really eager to know where to get the best chicken rice in Singapore. As cliché as this may sound, they were genuine and really down-to-Earth.
The interview itself was a breeze, since Angeli, Alisha, Nacho, Ji Hae and Victoria didn’t shy away from the unconventional questions I prepared for them. It was almost like talking to my friends, really. I’m predicting great things for Blush, because they truly deserve it.

Spin or Bin Music Interview with Mark Read of a1

When I received an email about interviewing a1, I quickly agreed and started jumping around in my room like a little girl. Its no surprise, because when a1 was at the peak of their career in 2002, I was still a little girl. Ten years on, I have grown up and so have the boys, but the fan-girlism doesn’t go away.
In Singapore for a couple of days for a power-packed show with other famous boybands such as Blue and Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees, Ben Adams, Mark Read and Christian Ingebrigtsen were beyond excited. During the interview, Mark admitted that they had no expectations as to how the turn-out for the concert will be, considering that it has been a decade since the boys were on our shores. Oh Mark, you can come here every weekend, and I, your fans will still be at every show, doe-eyed and all.
I know the band is still known for their pop-ish sounds back from the early 2000′s, but it feels like they have grown up along with us as a band. Check out our review of Waiting for Daylight here!

Spin or Bin Music Interview with Kasabian

Kasabian recently graced Singapore to promote their fourth studio album, Velociraptor! – their most ambitious albums to date. Not bad for a band that has seen lazy journalism call the band Oasis clones and labelled them lad rock. While the English rock band might share some of Oasis confidence and swagger, their music has always been more closely linked to Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, and even 70′s glam rock. Spin or Bin Music got to interview frontman Tom Meighan before their epic concert earlier this month to find out more about what makes the band tick. Check it out below!
What is one thing you’ve learnt from your previous albums that you applied to this one?
Tom: ‘Never make the same album again. It’s just ripping your fans off. We try to be inventive, never make the same mistakes.’
What was Velociraptor! about?
Tom: ‘Well all of our other albums have us messing around with words in terms of the lyrics. This time round we wanted it to be less… Fiction. We wanted to be able to write a song about falling in love and having sex. Real stuff. [Read more →]

Spin or Bin Music Interview With The Vaccines

When The Vaccines were here in Singapore to open for Kasabian earlier this month, Spin or Bin Music got to talk to Árni Hjörvar (bassist) and Freddie Cowan (guitar) who’ve taken the alternative rock scene by storm since the band announced their presence to the world with their album, What Did You Expect With The Vaccines? Check out what they had to say!
How did you guys first come up with The Vaccines?
Freddie: ‘We were just thinking of a name and Justin was looking through a Spanish dictionary and saw something like, El Vaccinos, or something like that.’
Árni: ‘It’s the most uninspiring and boring story you’ll ever hear.’
Freddie: ‘We had all sorts of politically incorrect names before that, The Catholics, The Red Indians, The Young Mothers. But then again, a name is only as good as the band gets.’ [Read more →]

Interview: Keeping In “Torch” With Foster The People

I have come to the conclusion that Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink and Mark Pontius, a.k.a the guys of Foster the People are riding on hurricanes, or tornadoes. Either way, being catapulted to fame on the back of hit single Pumped Up Kicks has gotten them on a whirlwind tour around the world, and Asia has been glad to bask in their charming presence and psychedelic sound.
On their second last Asian stop here in Singapore, we sat down with bassist and backing vocalist Cubbie Fink to have a talk about the Internet, spicy fried rice and the second album.
For me, it was certainly a delightful experience, being able to actually have a 13 minute conversation with a member of a band I actually really liked. So it was surprising that my nerves dispelled once we sat down and started chatting. It felt more of a laid-back Saturday afternoon high-tea meeting, sans the high-tea scones and Earl Grey. Fink was amiable, but you could tell that he was pretty tired, as he had just flown in from Kuala Lumpur two hours before the interview. Still, he had nothing but kind words for the Lion City, commenting on how beautiful the city looked and how “everyone we’ve met so far has been nothing but friendly“.
Getting down to business, we kicked off the session with a question of comparison. All you Asian fans out there had better be proud, because when asked how different you guys were to the fans back home, he pointed out one significant difference. “It was a pretty well experience I mean to be literally on the other side of the world, having a room full of people singing our songs and the one big difference with the fans here as opposed to home, is they sing really well. They all sing on key, whereas it’s more just kind of mumbled grunting (back home) but here they were singing on pitch, it was pretty awesome.” [Read more →]

Interview: Hanging Out with Jack & Jamie of Bombay Bicycle Club

The boys of Bombay Bicycle Club (BBC) were in town over the weekend to play at The People’s Party, a 2 day music festival held at Scape Warehouse. Comprising of Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Ed Nash and Suren de Saram, the band kickstarted their career when they won the Road To V competition and was asked to play the opening performance of 2006′s V Festival. Not looking back eversince, BBC has achieved tremendous success over the years, building up a huge fanbase all around the world as well as gracing the stage of some of the biggest music festivals.
We caught up with two of the members, Jack and Jamie, to have a little chat with them about their rise to success thus far.
How does it feel to know that your music is being listened to by people from the other side of the world?
Jamie: Its obviously an amazing feeling to be in a band and have the luxury of traveling around the world while playing our own music. I cannot think of any other jobs in the world which allows you to do that. So yeah, its truly an incredible feeling and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. [Read more →]
