Spin or Bin Music Spotlight: I Hate This Place Goes 'Wrecking Ball'; Talks Comparisons With Owl City

By  November 1, 2013

It’s time to finally let the cat band out of the bag. There are no holds barred. We go big on the details, dig exclusive content and spin only the deserving all just for YOU. In the opening installment of Spin or Bin Music Spotlight, we want to show our support for local acts with a focus on electro-pop project I Hate This Place.

Having reviewed their latest single Summer Valentine a while back, I thought I want to get to know them better and have the burning questions in my mind answered: are they full-time musicians? And what is the meaning behind 'I Hate This Place'? Surely not dislike for Singapore?

And after much planning with the team, this was made possible. Meeting lead singer Sean Nerney and guitarist Roman Tarassov of the band vis-à-vis at their habitat was a very warm welcome. Sean and Roman are chill yet affable, with discerning personalities and complementing musical flairs. Partners in crime, guilty as charged for making extremely dreamy and meaningful pop tunes.

We sit down and have a chat, and I even get them to Spin or Bin certain big names the radio is giving Applause and Roaring all about these days. The band has been around since 2004. Roman also tells me why he got a bit riled up when he first heard Owl City and Sean finally decodes the 'hate' behind this place for us.

And that isn’t the end of it yet – the duo performed a line-up of acoustic performances exclusively for us. This means a pretty unique cover of Wrecking Ball and the first time they’re showcasing their catchy hit Summer Valentine LIVE! Old favourites like Rabbit Girl and Moment are not to be missed as well.

So here’s more on why I Hate This Place deserves our Spotlight – watch and find out!
