Goo Goo Dolls Fail To Impress With Latest Single, 'Rebel Beat'

By  January 24, 2013

Goo Goo Dolls have released their first single, Rebel Beat, from their forthcoming album, which has been rumoured to be named Magnetic and scheduled for release in May this year.

On the first time I listened to the track, two thoughts popped into my mind: 1) The band sounds happier and 2) They kinda sound like Matchbox 20. Not a good thing. Cut the long story short, I didn't like it. The track was nowhere near what I was expecting from the band that released some of my all-time favourite tracks, Iris and I'm Still Here, and it wasn't even a pleasant surprise.

To be honest, I was very disappointed with this new material. It does not only sound overly radio-friendly, but the lyrics, too, fail to impress. All in all, the track is very unlike the band's earlier material. I'm not sure I'll be able to embrace their new sound just yet.

Then again, here's what John Rzeznik has to say to those who don't like the band's music: "You don't like my music? Fuck off." Oh well. Listen to Rebel Beat below:
