Justin Bieber Talks About 'Believe' At KL Press Conference

By  July 18, 2012

If you walked past the Plenary Hall at Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, you would think there was an all-out pop concert going on, judging by the load of shrill squeals from pubescent girls. Funnily enough, what was going on inside was actually just an acoustic set. Why the deafening cheers though? The set belonged to Justin Bieber.

If you don’t already know, the Biebs popped by Malaysia to open for MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2012. In between rehearsals and shopping with his girl (yes, Selena Gomez accompanied him here), he managed to squeeze in some time for a press conference. And being Bieber, he didn’t just settle for a press con, he performed stripped down versions of a couple of his songs, giving about 80 lucky Beliebers, (and way more people from the media) a treat for their ears!

Opening the set was his latest single, Die In Your Arms. You see, when Justin first stepped on the stage, he was clad in the most rugged outfit you’d imagine on him; a flannel shirt with the sleeves torn off, over a white t-shirt paired with those baggy dance pants and a pair of Supra kicks. But when he broke into the song, his gangsta ‘swag’ disappeared and in replacement, a soulful vibe engulfed him. Pretty neat, I’d say. He backtracked a little and performed two songs from his older albums, One Less Lonely Girl and Baby. The dude even did the rap part of Baby, although he did pause here and there to let the audience do it. Before moving on to the next song, he announced it as his next single, and almost in unison, the girls screamed ‘AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME’, which turned out to be correct. Girls, that’s SO Raven (you know, since they’re psychic).

The set closed with the lead single from Believe, Boyfriend, at which Justin graduated from his stool and started working the stage. He even showed off some fancy footwork in his fancy shoes, which was obviously greeted by even louder screams. Security was extremely tight at the venue, and the Beliebers weren’t even allowed to get off their seats. Justin thought ‘Screw that,’ and went to both sides of the stage and started beckoning them to come closer. The girls obliged, obviously, while the guards stood firm, blocking them from Justin. Justin did manage to pull out one girl from the crowd (who gave him a hug which lasted like half a minute) and started crooning to her, full-on eye contact included. And just as his guitarist played the last chord, he gave a kiss on the girl’s head. Watch out girl, you’re gonna be an instant hate-figure by the Belieber community.

We couldn’t record any part of the acoustic set, but we did manage to get the entire footage from the press conference! Check it out below!
