LISTEN: Vampire Weekend Debuts Long-Awaited New Material, 'New Song #2'

By  July 17, 2012

After lying low for such a long time, indie pop staple Vampire Weekend is making their return! Just last month, singer/guitarist of the band Ezra Koening announced that eighty per cent of their new follow-up album to sophomore Contra has been written. And during their show in North America on July 12, the quartet showcased a new track, which is currently titled New Song #2.

I am glad that Vampire Weekend is keeping their signature sounds! In this new track you can still hear the African-style guitars and percussions, very much reminiscent of their self-titled album and Contra. Ezra Koening still strums the acoustic guitar and Rostam Batmanglij harmonizes the frontman whenever he is not on his Korg. What gives to have a band keep true to their style despite the swarms of upcoming bands trying to outshine one another by delving into new sounds, right?

This new material definitely gives promising insight into what Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming album may be like, so yay! Watch them perform New Song #2 through a fan-footage below:
