Live performances are always a hit or miss affair.
While suspended on a swing made of white cloth, Katy Perry performed her latest song, Wide Awake, at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. The song is written for her upcoming film, Katy Perry: Part Of Me.
I applaud Katy’s attempt at singing live, instead of relying on a playback, *cough* Chris Brown *cough*. However, I feel that the performance really butchered the song. For a song that has a lot of meaning to it (as compared to her other songs), Katy surely picked a wrong way to showcase it for the first time.
Aerial stunts provided stunning visuals to the performance but did nothing to project Katy’s vocals. At certain parts of the performance, her voice was wavering and she was out of tune.
Her performance is similar to that of Pink's, at the MTV Video Music Awards back in 2009. However, Pink did a much better job in handling the aerial stunts as compared to Katy.
Overall, this performance is definitely one of the better live performances done by Katy but it should have been better planned out to complement her vocals.
