John Mayer Releases New Single 'Shadow Days'

By  March 3, 2012

In one of the most anticipated releases of 2012, John Mayer did not disappoint when he finally released his single, Shadow Days, online a couple of days back. He has confirmed the single as part of his next studio album, Born and Raised, which is expected to be released later this year.

Mayer's music is known to be very influenced by blues, however Shadow Days starts off with a very country-sounding sliding steel guitar riff. A mid-tempo song, its definitely comfortable to the ears. Lyrics-wise, it shows an emotional side to John Mayer as he sings about moving forward and becoming a better man after the mistakes that he committed in the past (I’m a good man with a good heart / Had a tough time, got a rough start / And I finally learned to let it go / Now I’m right here, and I’m right now / And I’m open, knowing somehow / That my shadows days are over / My shadow days are over now).

Honestly, while I thought that the song is good, I think we have seen better materials from John Mayer. I really miss his lyrics with fantastic imagery (Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, anyone?) but since we have been waiting close to 3 years for new music from this man, I'll embrace Shadow Days with arms wide open, thank you very much.
